You think you've seen it all? This is just the opening chapter.
The hijacking of an Islamic Republic "ghost fleet" tanker off African waters isn't an isolated incident — it's a symptom of a structural shift: the end of American-guaranteed maritime security.
Peter Zeihan mapped this out in The End of the World is Just the Beginning (2022). Remove the guarantor of open seas, and export-dependent economies unravel in a predictable order:
1) China first — its entire model rests on safe sea lanes.
2) Then the Arab states — nothing to sell beyond oil and gas, and no economy at all without exports.
3) And in the next phase, those exports themselves become targets.
The part nobody mentions: a lost tanker is not replaceable. Shipbuilding takes years. A shadow fleet cannot be rebuilt overnight, no matter the oil revenue.
