You've heard it in both American and Iranian circles lately: "In two years, the Strait of Hormuz won't matter."
Sadegh Bigdeli takes that claim — echoed by the U.S. Treasury Secretary — apart piece by piece:
▪️ Yes, if other states build pipelines and route crude elsewhere, Hormuz loses SOME weight. Nobody denies that.
▪️ But Hormuz isn't an oil-only corridor. The wealthy Gulf states import consumer goods through it every single day. Pipelines don't carry fridges and televisions.
▪️ Even for oil: once conditions normalize, pipelines stop penciling out economically and tankers return to the Strait.
The blunt conclusion: if you have the leverage, take the Strait out of the Islamic Republic's hands. If you don't — you're just posturing.
