Their widows were promised protection. Instead, the Islamic Republic turned many of them into commodities — trafficked through sigheh (temporary marriage) houses and so-called massage parlors, all under a religious cover. A young widow, left without income or protection, becomes leverage. That is not a glitch in the system. That IS the system. For the people: poverty.
