When Iranian regime officials say "coup," what they actually mean is a popular uprising.
In this clip, Iraj Mesdaghi decodes the regime's coded language: officials avoid saying "social uprising" because they refuse to admit their fear of the people in the streets — a fear amplified by the growing public support for Prince Reza Pahlavi, audible in the slogans themselves.
His argument is simple and devastating: the regime is the same regime, the crimes are the same crimes, the inflation, poverty and social pressure are unchanged. The only thing added since the last uprising is the killing of the 18th and 19th. The file against the regime is heavier — and so is the people's motivation to rise.
Which is why the title "Basij commander" means nothing other than commander of repression.
