Esmail Qaani outlived his own obituaries, twice. In March, regional outlets reported the Quds Force commander had been secretly executed as a Mossad asset; his “return” video was challenged as recycled footage, and a Mossad-linked account's denial, “Qaani is not our spy” per the Jerusalem Post, only thickened the fog. For four months the Islamic Republic produced no proof of life for the man who runs its wars abroad. Then, per AP, he stood at Khamenei's funeral prayers on 5 July: produced for cameras exactly when the state needed to show its officials can stand in daylight. The execution theory is weaker now.
